What kind of country is Kazakhstan?

Kazakhstan is a vast country, with most of its land covered by deserts and arid regions. It ranks 9th in the world in terms of land area and is the largest landlocked country in the world.
Major tourist attractions include Almaty, the largest city in the southeast, the petroglyphs of Tamgaly, a UNESCO World Heritage site in the suburbs, and Charyn Canyon, known as Kazakhstan's 'Grand Canyon.'
Additionally, the current capital, Astana, is a city with ties to Japan, as its urban planning was undertaken by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa. Enjoying the overwhelming beauty of this futuristic city is one of the pleasures.

Cash, cards and currency exchange
- It is difficult to exchange Japanese yen directly to Kazakhstani tenge. Therefore, you need to exchange yen to euros or dollars first, then to tenge.
- For euro exchange, Japan generally offers overwhelmingly better rates, so it is recommended.
- Using credit card cash advance services is also very convenient for shopping as it eliminates the need to exchange cash.
- In Kazakhstan, most stores accept credit cards, but there may be cases where small shops or taxis do not, so it is recommended to use both cards and cash.
Tips
- There is a tipping custom, but it is not very strict.
- Many restaurants include a service charge of about 15%, in which case there is no need to tip.
Public Safety
The security in Kazakhstan is relatively stable, but it cannot be said to be completely safe compared to Japan.
Petty crimes such as pickpocketing, snatching, and overcharging occur daily, so be sure to keep your valuables close, avoid carrying large amounts of cash, and be cautious not to follow strangers who approach you.
Clothing
Winter: You will need a heavy coat, warm clothing, windproof garments, and winter shoes.
Summer: Although temperatures rise, it gets chilly at night in the north, so prepare long-sleeved shirts, jackets, and outerwear.
As it is an Islamic country, it is advisable to avoid wearing overly revealing clothing in public places.

Tissues (toilet paper), wet wipes, gastrointestinal medicine, cold medicine, etc.
Visa availability and arrangements
Japanese nationals do not need to obtain a visa for stays of up to 30 days for purposes such as tourism, business, or visiting relatives and acquaintances.
Foreigners entering under visa exemption measures cannot, in principle, extend their stay, so please be aware.
Required vaccinations
・There are no mandatory requirements for travel.
Vaccinations for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, HIV, and tuberculosis are not mandatory but are recommended.
