Cash, cards and currency exchange

- Credit cards cannot be used in reasonably priced cafes and restaurants, or for charging transportation cards. Therefore, it is necessary to always carry cash when traveling.
When exchanging money, it is advisable to first exchange Japanese yen into US dollars or euros before converting to somoni. There are many places where you can exchange US dollars or euros, and the rates are favorable.

Tips

There is no custom of giving tips.
In restaurants and other dining establishments, a service charge is already included in the bill.

Public Safety

There is a risk of riots, terrorism, police attacks, demonstrations, and crimes involving firearms, so caution is necessary.
Avoid approaching areas considered dangerous, such as near the Afghan border, Sughd Province, and east of Rogun City. It is recommended to check Tajikistan's security information in advance.
Avoid actions that may make you a target for crime, such as walking alone at night, sleeping on trains, or carrying large amounts of cash.

Clothing

Since the country has significant climate variations, it is important to choose clothing according to the season you visit. Especially in winter or high-altitude areas, the climate can be cold, so be sure to take measures against the cold.
It gets colder in the mornings and evenings compared to daytime, so having something to wear over is essential.

Visa availability and arrangements

Japanese nationals are allowed to enter without a visa for stays of up to 30 days for tourism, business, diplomatic, or official purposes.
If entering without a visa, you must register your stay at the 'OVIR (Visa and Registration Office)' within 10 days of arrival. The hotel you are staying at can usually handle the registration, but if the hotel cannot or if you are staying at a friend's house, you will need to register yourself.

Required vaccinations

・There are no mandatory requirements for travel.
However, vaccinations for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, rabies, and typhoid are recommended.
