What kind of country is the United Arab Emirates?

The United Arab Emirates is a Middle Eastern country located in the southeastern part of the Arabian Peninsula.
Among the federation of seven emirates, Dubai is easily accessible due to its numerous tourist attractions and its role as an international flight terminal.

You can enjoy modern architectural wonders like the world's tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa, and the large, uniquely visual artificial island, Palm Jumeirah, as well as the vast Dubai Mall, which can't be fully explored in a day, and the Emirates Mall where you can ski. For an Arabian atmosphere, head to the Bastakiya district. A short trip will also allow you to enjoy a 4WD ride in the vast desert.

With many new developments and new spots emerging daily, it's recommended to consult knowledgeable staff and set out with a special plan just for you when visiting the United Arab Emirates!

Cash, cards and currency exchange
In Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the UAE Dirham is used. Currency exchange is possible at places like airports.

Generally, credit cards can be used at most shops and taxis, so there is no need to prepare a lot of cash. It is recommended to carry some cash for traditional small shops or small tips, but there is not much need to prepare a large amount of cash.
Tips
In service industries like restaurants, a tip of about 10-15% is usually included in the price. However, if you receive good service, it is appreciated to give an additional tip.

Additionally, the amount of tip to give can vary depending on the situation.
For bellboys or taxi drivers, it is common to give around 5-10 Dirhams, or simply hand over the change.

Tips for spa services or tour guides can be 10-15% or around 100 Dirhams.
Public Safety
The security situation in the United Arab Emirates is said to be relatively stable. However, in places frequently visited by tourists, there are many cases of pickpocketing, as well as incidents of drug smuggling and possession or use of drugs.
Clothing
Dubai and Abu Dhabi have a relatively liberal atmosphere, but Islamic laws are observed. It is preferred to understand and respect local customs and dress accordingly.

Specifically, avoid wearing revealing clothing regardless of gender. In some places, you may be denied entry or warned. In rural areas, there have been incidents where women wearing revealing clothing were harassed.

Also, since the sunlight is strong, having sun protection measures will make your stay more comfortable.
Things you should bring with you
Multi-plug, regular medication, Wifi, light jacket, mobile battery, sun protection items, insect repellent, travel insurance
Visa availability and arrangements
For short-term stays such as tourism, visiting relatives, or business, entry is allowed without prior visa acquisition. As of January 2024, a 30-day stay permit is granted upon entry.
After 30 days, an extension or change of stay procedure is required, so if you plan to stay for more than 30 days, you will need to complete the necessary procedures.

If your passport has less than six months of validity remaining, you may be denied entry.
Required vaccinations
There are no mandatory requirements for travel.

However, travelers from countries with a risk of yellow fever and those who have transited for more than 12 hours in such countries, who are over 9 months old, are required to present a yellow fever vaccination certificate (Yellow Card).
