What do you imagine when you hear Nepal?
What I imagined were mountains and delicious food like Indian cuisine.
Even when I actually went, I was able to spend a happy time surrounded by magnificent mountains and delicious food.
Among them, I would like to introduce the Ghorepani Poonhill trek, which I walked over four days in 2018.
People live there.
The Himalayas span five countries, including Nepal.
It's a different world with mountains over 8000m, difficult for ordinary people to enter, but Nepal has several spots like observatories where you can view this breathtaking scenery.
One of them is at an altitude of 3210m Poon Hill.
I took an easily accessible trek from Pokhara, Nepal's second-largest city I did the trek from Ghorepani.
After completing the procedures to enter the route and starting to walk, you are immediately surrounded by beautiful mountains.
The path is very easy to follow, and there are quite a few people trekking as well, which encourages you to keep going.
And after a while, you notice something. You often pass by people who are clearly not tourists, carrying large loads or leading cows and donkeys.
When you look around carefully, you see villages and groups of children here and there, and you realize that there is 'life' there.
It's not an easy journey, and there are moments when you might feel discouraged by their agility, but the time spent walking while pondering what kind of life they lead is very memorable.
The more you walk, the more beautiful the scenery becomes.
You stay in mountain huts at night, endure the cold in the morning and evening, and as you keep walking without stopping, you gradually get closer to the heights.
You can feel it from the cold, the narrowness of the path, the rising prices of food being sold, and the clarity of the air.
Looking around, you see people of all ages walking, and while it's a course that beginners can join, continuing to walk and climb is not easy.
Still, the beauty and joy of the scenery when you reach the summit are surely things that include the time and distance you walked to get there.
And at the summit, you also feel the awe of Nepal.
The sensation and emotion of viewing 7000m and 8000m mountains from a 3000m altitude are not experiences you have often in life.
Relieve the fatigue of your journey with a meal.
I usually love beer, but the morning and evening chill was quite something, and finding hot lemonade and beer, I chose the former without hesitation, which I think was about the only time I've done so until now.
Of course, only warm food is an option, but since people live there, you can enjoy delicious meals.
Among them, Nepalese dumplings called momo are sure to be loved by any Japanese person!
Everyone walking is a companion!
I was alone, but there were almost no moments when I felt lonely.
Greetings along the way, conversations in mountain huts, the scenery is no different from when hiking or climbing in Japan.
Among them, I started a conversation with a lively group of three I had seen since I started walking, after taking photos together at the summit, and ended up descending with them over two days.
Not just them, but the encounters with people along the way further enriched this journey.

With each trip, the world becomes more familiar, and by seeing the scenery, meeting people, and gathering information, the world I want to see expands even further, currently balancing being a salaryman and traveling.
