"The lungs of the Earth" - the tropical rainforest of the South American Amazon.
A vast jungle spanning seven South American countries, 17 times the size of Japan.
The famous Amazon River meanders through here!
It boasts the largest drainage basin in the world with numerous tributaries.
While it is a treasure trove of biodiversity, the riverbanks are home to people's lives, and the river serves as a route for daily commuting.
From solitary, melancholic small boats to luxurious cruise ships for the wealthy, all kinds of vessels navigate the Amazon River.
Among them, the most recommended is the hammock boat!
What exactly is a hammock boat?
As the name suggests, it's a "boat" where you can hang a "hammock"!There are no regular seats like on a typical boat, and in fact, there's nothing on the floor.
Instead, there are numerous poles on the ceiling.
You hang your hammock here, use it as your seat or bed, and enjoy the boat trip.
It serves as a long-distance bus for local residents, with routes ranging from a few hours to several nights.
There are routes within Peru, Colombia, and Brazil, as well as cross-border routes, allowing you to choose a boat trip based on your destination and duration of stay.
(If crossing borders, disembarkation is necessary for immigration.)
A 3-night, 4-day boat trip from Leticia to Manaus
I actually embarked on a 3-night, 4-day, 1600 km boat trip from Leticia in Colombia to Manaus in Brazil.
I bought a hammock in Leticia, and upon boarding, the staff helped me set it up.
This hammock boat had more comfortable facilities than expected, including a dining room, a toilet and shower room, and a small gym space, in addition to the hammock floor.
The first floor and basement serve as storage, functioning not only for passengers but also as a means of shipping goods.
In a word, the boat trip is "the ultimate luxury of doing nothing!"
You wake up with the sunrise and the sounds of animals, and as you watch the lives of people living in the unique greenery of the tropical rainforest and the Amazon River, the day passes by in no time.
You wake up from a nap, and as you daydream without a thought, a beautiful sunset appears before you.
The weather changes rapidly; one moment it's clear skies, the next it's a downpour, or you might see lightning striking the river under a strong sun, making it feel like you're in another world.
A rare sight created by black and brown
There is a rare spot 10 km before reaching Manaus.
It's the confluence of the Negro River and the Solimões River.
Due to differences in density and other factors, the black water of the Negro River (in the back) and the brown water of the Solimões River (in the front) take time to mix, creating a mysterious contrast.
It felt eerie, almost like a magatama.
What do you think? Do you feel like boarding?
It's an extremely rare boat trip worldwide, allowing you to luxuriously enjoy the majestic nature of the Amazon River!
