Madagascar is famous for its unique evolution and the presence of many endemic creatures.
As for lemurs, all 107 confirmed species are endemic to Madagascar.
Let's go on an adventure to the places where these unique creatures live!

The unique landscape of Madagascar

The Kirindy Forest Reserve is located in the western part of Madagascar, near the Avenue of the Baobabs with its enchanting landscapes.

On the way there, the sudden appearance of giant trees on the arid land is a truly mysterious sight.
Once you arrive at the national park, request a guide at the reception, and off you go!

Strange and adorable creatures with unique evolution

Immediately encountered a troop of brown lemurs! Their smooth movement through the trees is breathtaking.
The brown lemurs here are relatively accustomed to humans and came close to us.
A dwarf lemur sleepily peeks out from a hole.

Dwarf lemurs are nocturnal, and Madagascar has many nocturnal creatures.
A night hike, where you can see a different side from the day, is also one of the pleasures.

Not just baobabs! Mysterious plants

The peeling bark of this tree looks just like sunburned skin.

Locally, it's called the 'foreigner's tree' because it resembles the peeling skin of sunburned tourists.
I have mixed feelings as my skin is already peeling from sunburn.

The carnivorous mammal fossa of Madagascar

The fossa, a carnivorous mammal, stands at the top of Madagascar's ecosystem.
Its appearance is like a cheetah, like a mongoose, with a cute yet hunter-like elegance.
Due to habitat destruction, hunting, and eradication as pests, their numbers are declining, and they are designated as an endangered species.
Seeing them in the wild is quite rare.

This time, we couldn't meet them in the wild, but we were specially shown an individual that was protected for research.
It was smaller than expected, but its sharp gaze and aura of caution were exactly like a carnivore. It was impressive.

Not knowing what you might see is also the charm of wildlife observation.
When you go to see the baobabs, be sure to also visit the Kirindy Forest Reserve!
