Madagascar, an island nation surrounded by the sea, naturally has beautiful ocean spots.
That's Foulpointe!
The ocean where humpback whales live
Foulpointe is a town located on the northern part of Madagascar's east coast.
It is often used as a port for ships heading further north to Maroantsetra or east to Île Sainte-Marie.(Sainte-Marie)It is often used as a port for ships heading further north to Maroantsetra or east to Île Sainte-Marie.
Madagascar's roads are notoriously bad, making boats an important means of transportation. I stayed in this town to transfer boats.
In this area, humpback whales inhabit the waters from July to September, and if you're lucky, you can see them from a boat.
There is a coral reef stretching about 150 meters, and the coastal waters are very calm, making it a popular spot for tourists. It's a place where you can enjoy a mini-resort feel while still being local.
Choose a room with a mosquito net
When staying in Madagascar, you need to be cautious of mosquitoes that transmit malaria.
The mosquito coils sold in Madagascar often don't work, so I believe having a mosquito net is essential when choosing accommodation in Madagascar.
An elegant cruise
As you pass through the spacious garden of the resort-like accommodation, you're already at the sea.
Since we're here, let's row a little offshore in a hand-rowed boat.
It's a pleasantly shallow and calm sea that stretches endlessly.
Along the way, the guide stopped the boat and brought something.
He was holding a long creature in his hand.
Probably a giant sea cucumber.
It's an enormous sea cucumber that can stretch up to 3 meters.
We couldn't reach the coral reef due to the waves, but it seems that beautiful fish swim there.
Mysterious fruit I ate while walking around town
While walking around the town, we found a mysterious fruit that looked like a devil fruit.
The skin was quite hard and didn't budge even with a punch.
Even my Malagasy friend didn't know what it was, so I decided to buy it.
When I opened it, there was smooth, round flesh inside.
I cautiously put it in my mouth, and it was surprisingly delicious.
It was a delicious fruit with a refreshing sweet and sour taste, like an apricot.
During my stay in Madagascar, this was the only place I saw this fruit, but if you come across it, give it a try.
The market, being in a coastal town, is lined with delicious-looking seafood.
A short walk revealed buckets full of spiny lobsters!!
A large amount of spiny lobster, which would be quite expensive to eat in Japan, can be enjoyed at a bargain price in Madagascar.
It's irresistible for shrimp lovers...
A magnificent view of the mirrors
If you stay at Fool Point, the sunrise is especially recommended.
Due to the calmness of the coast, you can see a mirror-like beach reminiscent of the Uyuni Salt Flats.
The sunrise climbing over the mirror-like beach, with a single boat rowing out. It's a beautiful everyday scene in Madagascar.

It's a recommended place if you want to enjoy a peaceful mini-resort vibe.
