What kind of country is Uganda?

Uganda, while bordering Kenya and Tanzania in East Africa, might be perceived as surprisingly modest, but its natural richness and cultural sophistication are second to none. It is a country of lush greenery, often referred to as the 'Pearl of Africa.' It boasts Lake Victoria, the world's second-largest freshwater lake and the source of the Nile River, with one of its sources, the 'White Nile,' also starting here.
On the other hand, the capital Kampala, like other parts of Africa, is experiencing a building boom, with road paving projects advancing. In addition to its lush greenery, enjoy the modern city's local and friendly atmosphere.

Cash, cards and currency exchange
・When exchanging money, it is advisable to exchange Japanese yen to US dollars in Japan beforehand, and then exchange US dollars to Ugandan shillings at the airport or a bank in Uganda. It is difficult to exchange Japanese yen directly to Ugandan shillings. Additionally, US dollars are widely circulated, so the exchange rate is most favorable.
・Credit cards can be used in restaurants and supermarkets within large shopping malls, but most shops in the city do not accept cards. Therefore, it is essential to carry cash. It is recommended to use a combination of cash and cards where cards are accepted.
Tips
・There is a custom of giving tips.
・It is advisable to give your guide about 15 to 20 US dollars per day, all at once on the final day.
Public Safety
・It is said to be safer than neighboring Kenya, but less safe than Rwanda.
・The security situation in the capital Kampala is completely different from that in rural areas. The further you go into the countryside, the less the wealth gap and the better the security, but there is also a risk of contracting diseases such as malaria, so caution is necessary.
・To avoid getting involved in crime, try to limit movement at night, keep valuables close to you, and ignore persistent strangers.
Clothing
・When going trekking, it is necessary to prepare comfortable shoes, a hat, sunglasses, and clothing that can be layered to adjust for temperature differences.
・For safari drives, it is better to wear lightweight long sleeves to protect against sunburn and insects. Also, it is safer to avoid wearing brightly colored clothing that might provoke animals.
Things you should bring with you
・Stomach medicine, cold medicine, mobile battery, tissues, wet tissues, insect repellent items, sun protection items, etc.
Visa availability and arrangements
・A visa or e-Visa is required.
・Since July 1, 2016, visa applications for entry into Uganda have been available online, and it is possible to obtain an e-Visa for business or tourism purposes. When applying for a visa, make sure to check the remaining validity of your passport and the availability of unused visa pages.
Required vaccinations
・Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory upon entry and exit. All travelers over the age of one are required to have a yellow fever vaccination certificate, which becomes valid 10 days after vaccination, so it is necessary to get vaccinated at least 10 days before entry.
・Vaccinations for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, tetanus, meningitis, rabies, measles, rubella, chickenpox, and shingles are also recommended.
