What kind of country is Bosnia and Herzegovina?

Bosnia and Herzegovina is located in the northwest of the Balkan Peninsula in Southeast Europe.
It was once a constituent country of Yugoslavia, and due to its history of various ethnic groups gathering and dispersing in one region, there was a sad history of ethnic conflicts over the country's direction upon independence, leading to conflict.

On the other hand, it is a very attractive place where many religions coexist due to its history of multi-ethnic living, and you can glimpse multiple imperial cultures.
The capital Sarajevo, with its many attractions such as various religious buildings like churches, mosques, and cathedrals, and an old town that inherits various histories, the historic city of Mostar with beautifully reconstructed Ottoman-era bridges conveying history and culture, and the Vjetrenica Cave in Ravno, newly registered as a World Heritage Site in 2024, are among the culturally and naturally attractive spots, along with places where you can enjoy winter activities.

If you want to experience historical multiculturalism, definitely visit Bosnia and Herzegovina.
If you want to extend your trip a bit from neighboring European countries, be sure to consult with Oooh's local coordinators.

Please come and have a special trip just for you.

Various things to note when traveling to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Cash, cards and currency exchange
The local currency is the Convertible Mark.
You can exchange money at local banks, airports, and hotels, but since it is difficult to exchange Japanese yen, it is recommended to exchange for euros in Japan.

In major cities, credit cards and various cashless payment methods are fairly widespread. Visa/MasterCard can often be used without any issues.
On the other hand, some shops like markets, tobacco shops, and bakeries may not accept cards, so having some cash on hand is reassuring.
Tips
There is a certain tipping custom.
In restaurants, if the service charge is not included, 10-15% is typical. For hotel cleaning and porters, about 1 euro is standard, and for taxis, around 10% is a guideline.

Some toilets are paid and cost around 0.5 euros.
Public Safety
It has been 30 years since the conflict, and security is relatively improving. However, in tourist areas, especially Sarajevo, petty crimes like pickpocketing and snatching occur frequently, so caution is needed when going out. Pickpocketing on trams and buses is often reported, so be careful.
Clothing
There are temperature differences due to weather in any season. It is recommended to wear easily adjustable clothing like layers. A nylon jacket such as a windbreaker is convenient as it can also serve as a raincoat when it rains.
In spring and summer, similar attire to Japan is recommended, while in autumn and winter, warmer clothing than in Japan is advisable.

Since there are many cobblestones, it is recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes for exploring.
Things you should bring with you
Multi-plug, regular medication, mobile battery, travel insurance, warm clothing
Visa availability and arrangements
There is no visa waiver agreement with Japan, but due to measures by the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a visa is not required for stays totaling up to 90 days within six months from the first entry date.
Additionally, if staying in Bosnia and Herzegovina for more than three days, it is necessary to submit a residence report to the local foreign office within 48 hours.
Required vaccinations
There are no mandatory requirements for travel.
