What kind of country is Qatar?

Qatar is located on the Qatar Peninsula in the northeastern part of the Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East. It borders Saudi Arabia to the south and is surrounded by the Persian Gulf.

In the capital Doha, there are many urban delights such as uniquely shaped skyscrapers rarely seen in Japan, museums, concert halls, and various shopping centers.
A 1 to 2-hour drive from Doha allows you to enjoy beautiful mangrove forests and deserts that cannot be seen in Japan.

Additionally, at the archaeological site of Al Zubarah, a UNESCO World Heritage site that flourished with pearl trade in the 18th century and is said to be the starting point of many Middle Eastern countries, you can touch a part of history.

Since everything is compact and easy to navigate, tell the local coordinator at Oooh what you want to do, and create your own Qatar travel plan to enjoy everything.

Qatar's National Museum, which also emphasizes art, is designed to resemble the desert rose, a crystalline mineral found in desert regions including Qatar. Built on the site of Sheikh Abdullah Bin Jassim Al Thani's palace, this expansive museum utilizes cutting-edge technology to present the history of life on Earth, the harsh realities of desert living, tribal conflicts over territory, traditional clothing, the pearl industry that sustained Qatar until the discovery of oil, and the subsequent economic and urban development driven by oil. The museum also features many captivating exhibits, such as the pearl carpet. Items available at the museum shop make perfect souvenirs.

Cash, Cards, and Currency Exchange
The currency of Qatar is the Qatari Riyal. There are almost no places in Japan where you can exchange it, but cashless payments are available in many places locally.

There are some areas where only cash is accepted, but you can withdraw local currency from ATMs using your card. Additionally, you can exchange Japanese yen for local currency at exchange offices in Qatar. Since it's difficult to exchange currency in Japan, it's recommended to convert it to Japanese yen, dollars, or euros before returning to Japan.
Tips
There is generally no tipping custom at local restaurants and hotels.
You pay a service fee (20 Qatari Riyals) for porter services at the airport.
Safety
Due to the efforts of Qatari authorities in security measures, the overall security is considered good.
Reports of economic crimes such as burglary, pickpocketing, theft, and fraud have been made, so general safety precautions are necessary.
Clothing
In summer, it can be extremely hot and humid, with temperatures reaching close to 50 degrees Celsius outdoors. On the other hand, due to the Islamic cultural area, it is not recommended to wear clothes that expose too much skin.
In recent years, indoor air conditioning is often too strong, so having something to wear over your clothes can be reassuring.
Autumn is relatively comfortable, often around 25 degrees Celsius, but be cautious of the significant temperature differences between morning and night. Winter and spring can drop below 20 degrees, but it is considerably warmer compared to winter in Japan.
The direct sunlight is strong, so having something to block the sun might make it more comfortable.
Things to Bring
Multi-plug, regular medication, mobile battery, travel insurance, sunburn and sun protection items
Visa Requirements and Arrangements
Japanese nationals are exempt from visas for short-term stays for tourism or business purposes, and are granted a 30-day stay permit upon entry at Hamad International Airport, which can be extended for up to 60 days if necessary.
Required Vaccinations
There are no mandatory requirements for travel.
However, travelers from countries with a risk of yellow fever and those who have transited for more than 12 hours in such countries, who are over 9 months old, are required to present a yellow fever vaccination certificate (Yellow Card).
If traveling from countries in Africa where there is still a risk of the poliovirus, a vaccination certificate is required.
Things to note during your stay
It is strictly prohibited to photograph Muslim women wearing abayas without permission, and it is advisable to refrain from photographing men and children as well.
It is also forbidden to photograph police officers, police vehicles, buildings, warships, military-related sites, and incident or accident scenes. Cameras may be confiscated and fines imposed.
