In the land where people began to live before the Common Era, the Joya de Cerén archaeological site, a World Heritage Site preserved by several volcanic eruptions, shows the settlements of pre-Columbian Maya farmers. In the country's second-largest city, Santa Ana, there is the beautiful Santa Ana Cathedral and the Santa Ana Volcano, which can be reached in about an hour using tours. - Cash, cards and currency exchange

The US dollar is used as currency in El Salvador.
You can exchange money at local airports and banks, but it's recommended to exchange a certain amount from Japan.
In 2021, El Salvador adopted Bitcoin as a national currency, so digital payments are advanced, and credit card payments are generally possible.
It's safer to have some cash when going to markets and similar places.

Compared to some time ago, the security situation in El Salvador is improving, but incidents involving gangs still occur.

The climate is generally hot and humid throughout the year, so light clothing is sufficient. However, it can feel a bit cool at night, so having a light jacket is reassuring.
Overall, casual clothing blends in better. When visiting churches and similar places, avoid wearing revealing clothing like tank tops and shorts.

For stays of up to 90 days for tourism or visiting acquaintances, you can enter without obtaining a visa due to the visa waiver agreement between Japan and El Salvador.
Additionally, there is a migration and movement agreement among four Central American countries (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua), allowing foreigners who have legally entered any of these countries for short-term stays to move and stay in the other three countries for up to 90 days.
- Required vaccinations

There are no vaccinations that are mandatory for travel.
However, travelers from countries at risk of yellow fever and those who have transited for more than 12 hours in such countries and are over one year old are required to present a yellow fever vaccination certificate (Yellow Card).
It is recommended to get vaccinated against malaria before going.
