Overall it was good

When I went there this time, I felt that it would be quite difficult to go around the famous tourist spots in South America on my own, so I am glad I asked for a guide.
On the other hand, I thought it would have been nice to do a little more research on the hotel and consult with them at the time of planning. If you can book only the hotel yourself, you will be grateful in terms of cost and preference. (I'm not sure about the cost because I don't know the price of this time for the hotel alone)

Before departure, the direct flight between La Paz and Santiago was canceled and changed to a transfer, but there was also information that it was not currently operating at the time. I don't know if it's true or not, but if it's not running now, I wanted it to be accurately known when planning in advance.

I didn't have to worry about rabies, so I didn't get vaccinated, but there were many Nora-like dogs in various places. The risk of being bitten was probably low, but it was a little disgusting.

The guide in Machu Picchucusco when I had diarrhea and abdominal pain was very kind and very helpful because I was able to take care of him flexibly.
On the other hand, the Peruvian ceviche fish, which is thought to have caused the abdominal pain, should have been a little more cautious. When I asked him later, he said that there were many people who ate Japan. It wasn't a good idea to eat all of it because it was refreshing and delicious while I was tired of greasy food, but it would have been nice to have them explain that there are not a few people who eat this dish at the restaurant.

The guide at Salar de Uyuni was also very helpful and helpful.
The other guides were generally kind, but some of them were veterans and a little self-paced, so I had the impression that they could have been a little more attentive.

La Paz suffered from severe exhaust fumes and a stomach ache that further deteriorated him due to an exhaust gas allergy. The altitude sickness itself was well countermeasured, so it didn't get worse, but I wasn't aware of the exhaust gas, so I thought it would be a good level to share with the information in advance.

When I boarded the Cessna in the Nazca Lines, I was about to put it back even though I was taking anti-sickness. It seems that it is difficult to adjust the reservation time of the Cessna because it does not seem to be free, but it may be difficult to board just after lunch.

It was a pretty tough trip in terms of physical condition because I was sick, but I think it was good overall to see the scenery of a lifetime smoothly.

Perfect Support for Solo Travel

This was a solo trip to Bolivia. I've been to South America several times, but each time there were minor troubles, and I was always torn between joining a Japanese tour or arranging everything myself. This time, I found oooh through a search. Adding a guide for solo travel does come at a cost, but since I managed to book cheap flights on my own, the total cost was less than a full tour package. The guide's English was flawless, so I had no issues with communication, and I felt the price was reasonable.
The local guide and driver were all wonderful people, and I don't think I could have found such a great company on my own. I plan to use their services again for future solo trips.

Despite preparing medication and other necessities, I suffered from altitude sickness for about three days in Bolivia. Trekking was quite challenging as I struggled to catch my breath, but with their support, I was able to complete the entire itinerary safely, and I am very grateful.

The only dissatisfaction I had was during my transit in Lima. I had booked a one-day tour, but I ended up returning to the airport earlier than expected. I had informed them of my flight, so I assumed they would adjust the schedule accordingly, but I failed to confirm this, which was my mistake. The tour itself was fantastic, but I had to wait at the airport for 10 hours, and I wish I could have enjoyed more of Lima's cityscape.

Even so, all the guides were amazing—friendly like old friends, yet professional, providing detailed explanations and answering all my questions.
I've completely fallen in love with Bolivia and can't wait to visit again!

It was really good.

It was really great as an individual trip rather than a group tour.

At my previous major travel company, I had the opportunity to take care of Japanese expatriates and corporate clients in South America. With the generous cooperation of members of the Nikkei community, I learned about the unique business customs of South America and realized how challenging these countries really are. This insight motivated me to venture out on my own, determined to provide the speed, quality, and meticulous service that Japanese clients expect. Drawing on nearly ten years of experience in the Brazilian travel industry, I continue to study diligently every day with the aim of becoming the only local operator capable of offering clear proposals and explanations about the often perplexing local realities—even in regions that are extremely distant from Japan.

Since childhood, I have been interested in other countries, and during my university days when I started earning money and even after entering society, I would think about where I wanted to go whenever I had free time. (I couldn't easily leave Japan because the money didn't follow, though...) There were times when I would only have a rough plan, clutching just a plane ticket, and set off alone from Narita.
Currently, I am living in South America, something I never imagined. These days, I think, "You never know what life will bring."
However, as I began living in Ecuador, I encountered Ecuador's wonderful tourism resources and crafts, and I wanted more people around the world to know about them, hoping it would contribute even a little to the country's development, so I knocked on the door of a local travel company.

What kind of country is Bolivia?

Bolivia is a landlocked country in South America with a land area about 3.3 times that of Japan and a population of approximately 10 million people.
Although it has no sea, diverse natural landscapes such as the Andes Mountains and savannas spread around La Paz.
Among them, the most famous tourist spot is the Uyuni Salt Flats located in the capital, La Paz.
The phenomenon known as 'mirror effect' at the Uyuni Salt Flats, where the sky is reflected, is quite challenging to witness as it requires rain, water accumulation, and a clear day following. However, the experience of seeing it is unforgettable.
Additionally, there are many historical sites that evoke a sense of history, such as the Fort of Samaipata and the Potosi Silver Mine.

Cash, cards and currency exchange
・Currency exchange: You cannot directly exchange Japanese yen to Bolivianos. Therefore, obtain US dollars in Japan beforehand and exchange them for local currency upon arrival.
・Bolivia has few places where international cash cards, credit cards, or dollars can be used. However, as it gains popularity as a tourist destination, the number of places accepting credit cards is increasing. Since credit card fees are cheaper than exchanging for local currency, it is recommended to use credit cards where possible.
・Many places like transportation, souvenir shops, and hotels are cash-only, so it's important to exchange a bit more cash.
Tips
・There is a custom of giving tips.
・Restaurants: 10% of the bill
・Taxis: Bs.5-8 if they help with luggage at places like airports
・When staying at luxury hotels, don't forget to tip for services like bed-making or room service.
Public Safety
・The South American continent, where Bolivia is located, is generally not considered very safe.
・In the 'World's Safest Countries Ranking' published by the American magazine 'Global Finance,' Bolivia ranks 81st, indicating it is not a particularly safe region.
・To avoid becoming a victim of crime, take precautions such as avoiding walking alone at night, keeping valuables close, and not using your phone while walking. Also, since there is a non-zero risk of incidents like terrorism, check the latest information from embassies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Clothing
・Bolivia has significant temperature differences between day and night. Additionally, due to its high altitude, the sun is very strong during the day, making sunscreen essential. If visiting the Uyuni Salt Flats, a long-sleeve T-shirt is usually sufficient in town, but it's reassuring to have something to wear over it as the wind can be chilly.
Things You Should Bring
• Items such as stomach remedies, cold medicine, a mobile battery charger, insect repellent, and sun protection supplies.
Visa availability and arrangements
・For short stays of up to 30 days for tourism purposes, a visa is not required. Additionally, if you apply for an extension in Bolivia, you can stay for up to 90 days in a year.
・If traveling to Bolivia via the United States, be aware that an ESTA is required to enter the US.
Required vaccinations
・There are no mandatory requirements for travel. However, vaccinations for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, tetanus, rabies, and yellow fever are recommended.
