Nicaragua is a Latin American country located in Central America, bordered by the Caribbean Sea to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest.
The ruins of León Viejo, said to be the oldest city from the Spanish colonial era and a World Heritage site. Managua, the capital, is filled with attractions such as the Rubén Darío Theater, the Cultural Palace, and the black statue made of tin of Sandino. The León Cathedral, a World Heritage site known for its Antigua Guatemala Baroque architecture, was built over many years starting in 1747. The Caribbean coast offers spots for surfing and diving, as well as the Corn Islands. Ometepe Island offers volcanic trekking.
In recent years, Nicaragua has rapidly developed as a tourist destination, offering various ways to enjoy it, from cultural spots where you can glimpse Latin American history from the European colonial era to ecotourism spots that make use of its rich nature.

It takes place sometime between March and April each year, with participants wearing costumes and holding carnivals. It's a festival quite different from those in Japan, so be sure to experience it. An island in Lake Nicaragua, composed of two volcanoes. The island features wetlands, cloud forests, and tropical rainforests, where you can see various flora and fauna not found in Japan. It is also a treasure trove of pre-Columbian petroglyphs (carvings on rocks and caves). Many activities such as volcanic trekking are well-developed. All environmental conservation and tour offerings are conducted by local residents, making it known as a site for practicing ecotourism.
