Trip Highlights
Bolivia, a South American country with many cities located at altitudes above 3,000 meters.
Situated on the opposite side of the globe from Japan, Bolivia offers breathtaking landscapes and ancient cultures that captivate many.
This plan begins with a visit to the Tiwanaku Ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and precursor to the Inca civilization known for its megalithic culture. Explore the Gate of the Sun, the underground temple, and the Ponce monolith to fully immerse yourself in this enigmatic ancient civilization.
Next, visit Lake Titicaca, a massive lake said to be 12 times the size of Lake Biwa. Explore the man-made floating islands of Uros and the stunning landscapes and Quechua weaving culture of Taquile Island.
Then, head to the Uyuni Salt Flats, often ranked as the number one must-see destination before you die. Under the right weather conditions, the lake reflects the bright blue sky, creating a surreal and breathtaking view.
During your Uyuni tour, visit the small village of Colchani by the salt flats, the photogenic 'Train Cemetery' with abandoned old trains, the 'Salt Mining Area,' and, depending on the season, the cactus-filled 'Incahuasi Island.'
In addition to daytime exploration of the Uyuni Salt Flats, you can also enjoy stargazing under a sky full of stars, as well as sunset and sunrise views.
In Bolivia's capital, La Paz, you can freely explore the city's streets. Don't miss the nearby 'Valley of the Moon,' a must-see attraction.
