What kind of country is Zambia?

Zambia is a landlocked country located in the southern part of the African continent.
As a member of the Commonwealth, the official language is English.

The most famous spot in Zambia is the great waterfall known as Victoria Falls, named after the British queen at the time of its discovery, and also a UNESCO World Heritage site, called "Mosi-oa-Tunya." The period from February to May, peaking in April, is when you can see the waterfall at its most powerful due to high water volume.
Additionally, you can experience African safaris at places like Lower Zambezi National Park and South Luangwa National Park, or learn about the history and archaeology of southern Africa at Zambia's oldest museum, the Livingstone Museum. There are also various ethnic music experiences woven by different ethnic groups that you can't experience in Japan.

Consult with a coordinator about what you want to do and create a special tailor-made plan just for you.

Various things to consider when traveling to Zambia.

Cash, cards and currency exchange
The currency of Zambia is the Zambian Kwacha (currency code: ZMW).
You can also use US dollars locally.
It is recommended to exchange Japanese yen for US dollars before traveling. Due to tipping and other expenses, it is advisable to bring small denominations rather than large ones.
In urban areas, there are places where Visa and MasterCard credit cards can be used. However, be cautious as American Express and Diners are often not accepted.
Tips
Zambia is a country with a tipping culture. It's reassuring to have coins and small bills ready.
For hotel cleaning and porter services, about 1 dollar is appropriate. In restaurants, around 10% is a good guideline.
If someone watches your car at a supermarket or store, you might give around 50 cents.
Tipping is not particularly necessary for taxis, but if they provide a special service, about 1 dollar is a guideline.
When you receive services from a guide or others, it's customary to give a certain amount as a gratuity.
Public Safety
Zambia is considered one of the relatively safe countries in Africa, but when looking at the number of major crimes per million people, the rates of crimes such as murder and robbery are higher than in Japan. Additionally, the risk level can increase due to domestic situations, so it is recommended to check information carefully before traveling.
Clothing
Throughout the year, clothing such as short sleeves and lightweight shirts for sun protection are suitable. If visiting places like Victoria Falls, it's reassuring to have a raincoat and shoes with good ankle support that are slip-resistant.
Things you should bring with you
Multi-plug, regular medication, mobile battery, travel insurance, raincoat, sun protection items, insect repellent
Visa availability and arrangements
From November 7, 2022, Japanese passport holders are exempt from visas when entering Zambia.
For more details, please refer to the visa-related information prepared by the Embassy of Japan in Zambia (https://www.zm.emb-japan.go.jp/files/100420431.pdf).
Required vaccinations
There are no mandatory requirements for travel.

However, travelers from countries at risk of yellow fever and those who have transited for more than 12 hours in such countries and are over one year old are required to present a yellow fever vaccination certificate (Yellow Card).
It is recommended to get vaccinated against malaria before going.
Additionally, from a disease prevention perspective, the WHO does not recommend tourists visit the northwestern and western areas.
