Various things to consider when traveling to Zimbabwe.

Cash, cards and currency exchange

・When exchanging money, please exchange Japanese yen to US dollars in advance, and then exchange to Zimbabwean dollars locally. However, due to the unstable currency value in Zimbabwe, US dollars are the main currency used for transactions in tourist areas like Victoria Falls.
・There may be cases where cash advance services using credit cards are not available. Even when available, the daily limit is around a few hundred dollars, so please be cautious.
・Where credit cards are accepted, it is recommended to actively use them and combine cash and card usage.

Tips

・There is a tipping culture.
・It is customary to give a tip of about US$1 to guides, drivers, and hotel porters.

Public Safety

・Zimbabwe is not an extremely unsafe country, but the rate of general crimes such as robbery and theft is said to be about 30 times that of Japan, so constant vigilance is necessary.
・The range and frequency of police patrols are quite limited, so they cannot be relied upon. Therefore, it is important to have a mindset of protecting yourself.
・To avoid becoming a victim of crime, try to avoid traveling at night, do not carry large amounts of cash, and keep your luggage to a minimum.

Clothing

・In Zimbabwe, you can generally manage with short sleeves and light outerwear throughout the year.
・When visiting Victoria Falls, raincoats and sandals are essential to protect against the spray.

Stomach medicine, cold medicine, mobile battery, insect repellent items, sun protection items, etc.

Visa availability and arrangements

・A visa is required.
・A visa allowing a 30-day stay can be obtained at the airport or border. A single-entry visa costs US$30, and a double-entry visa, which allows one re-entry, costs US$45. You will also need to have a return ticket and sufficient cash for your stay.
・A KAZA Univisa, valid for 30 days, allows multiple entries between Zimbabwe and Zambia and a day trip to Botswana, and can be obtained for US$50.

Required vaccinations

There are no mandatory requirements for travel.
However, it is recommended for those who have not had additional vaccinations for routine vaccines such as hepatitis A and B, tetanus, rabies, typhoid, cholera, MMR (measles, rubella, mumps), DTP, and polio to get vaccinated.
