Various concerns about traveling in Albania.

Cash, cards and currency exchange

The currency unit is Lek. Since there are few places to exchange from Japanese yen, it is recommended to bring US dollars or euros from Japan and exchange them locally. Euros can sometimes be used directly.
Credit cards are limited to luxury restaurants and some stores, so it is still safer to carry cash in this area.

Tips

There is basically no tipping culture, but it is recommended to pay about 10% of the bill when you receive pleasant service at restaurants, etc.

Public Safety

In Albania, drug trafficking and the presence of criminal organizations have been pointed out, but there are very few reports of foreigners being involved in these crimes.
To avoid getting involved in crime, it is advised to travel long distances with someone familiar with local information, ensure proper communication means, avoid going out at night, and ignore contact from strangers.
It is also reassuring to take proper precautions against pickpocketing and other issues at tourist spots.

Clothing

Basically, you can visit with clothing similar to what you would wear in Japan. It's reassuring to have a light jacket or sun protection for the summer just in case.
If you are going to the mountainous areas, you need to dress warmly.

Visa availability and arrangements

Albania has a visa waiver for Japanese nationals, and a visa is not required for short stays of up to 90 days, including the day of entry.
If you wish to stay for more than 90 days, you need to obtain a visa in advance from the Albanian Embassy in Japan according to your purpose, or apply for and obtain a visa at the local police station after entering Albania.

Required vaccinations

Travelers over the age of one entering from countries with a high risk of yellow fever are required to present proof of yellow fever vaccination.
