Cash, cards and currency exchange

The currency of Ireland is the euro.
While you can exchange money in Japan, it is also possible to do so at local airports or currency exchange counters. Additionally, you can withdraw cash from local ATMs.
In urban areas and tourist spots, credit cards are generally accepted, so there is little need to carry large sums of cash; however, having some cash in smaller denominations can provide peace of mind in emergencies.

Tips

In Ireland, it is customary to tip when you receive excellent service or dine at upscale restaurants.
There are also certain services where tipping is the norm.
At sit-down restaurants that don’t include a service charge, a tip of around 10–15% is customary. If gratuity or a service charge has already been added, no additional tip is needed.
In hotels, if you receive special services such as help from a porter, room service, or a pillow coin, it is customary to tip around 1 euro.
For taxis, tipping about 10%—rounding up the fare slightly—is standard. When using ride-hailing apps, however, tipping is usually not expected.

Public Safety

In recent years, theft has become more common in Ireland, so be vigilant when you go out.
Additionally, disturbances believed to be related to gang conflicts have occurred in Dublin, so it is wise to avoid going out at night and steer clear of any troublesome situations.

Clothing

Ireland experiences little variation in temperature throughout the year. Winters tend to be slightly colder than in Japan, while summers are considerably more comfortable.
When traveling from Japan, it’s a good idea to have a light jacket handy. In the summer, don’t forget to take precautions against the sun.
Although the overall annual rainfall is low, the weather can change quickly with sudden showers occurring frequently. Since rain can lower the perceived temperature, it is advisable to dress in a way that allows for easy adjustments.
Since there are many cobblestone paths, it is recommended to wear flat, comfortable shoes.

Visa availability and arrangements

Thanks to the visa exemption agreement between Japan and Ireland, travelers engaging in non-commercial activities such as tourism can enter Ireland without a visa for stays up to six months (with the maximum permitted stay upon entry being 90 days).
If you enter Ireland via the United Kingdom, you will also undergo Irish immigration checks at UK airports.

Be cautious: if you only have a one-way ticket, have not secured initial accommodation, or have limited funds, you may be denied entry or have your stay restricted.
