Cash, Cards, and Currency Exchange

The local currency in Luxembourg is the Euro. Currency exchange is available at airports and banks, but rates are often better in Japan. While cash is not frequently needed, it's advisable to carry some small-denomination bills for convenience.
Major cards like Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted almost everywhere. Withdrawing cash from ATMs is also hassle-free in urban areas.

Tips

Hotels and restaurants often include service charges, so tipping is generally unnecessary.
For housekeeping or porters, it's common to give around 1 Euro. For taxis, rounding up the fare is often used as a tip.

Safety

Luxembourg is considered safer than its neighboring countries, but its easy accessibility has led to incidents involving theft rings and drug trafficking groups from nearby nations. Compared to Japan, crime rates are higher, with pickpocketing and theft being particularly common. Be especially cautious in places like train stations and parks.

Clothing

Luxembourg enjoys a relatively mild climate throughout the year.
Spring and summer are often cooler than in Japan, so bringing a jacket is recommended.
Winters are relatively mild for its latitude but colder than Tokyo, so ensure you have adequate winter clothing.

Visa Requirements and Arrangements

A visa waiver agreement between Japan and Luxembourg allows short-term stays of up to three months for purposes such as tourism or visiting acquaintances without requiring a visa.
Luxembourg is a member of the Schengen Agreement. Therefore, the total duration of stay in Schengen countries is limited to "a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period." Additionally, travelers must possess a valid travel document (passport) that is issued within the last 10 years and remains valid for at least three months beyond the planned departure date from the Schengen area.
