What kind of country is Slovenia?

Slovenia, bordered by the Alps, the Dinaric Alps, and the Adriatic coast of the Mediterranean, has long thrived as a crossroads of European culture and trade.

You can enjoy various European architectural styles, from places rich in historical culture like Ljubljana, the capital recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for Jože Plečnik's human-centered urban planning, to the beautiful landscapes of Lake Bled and the unique natural scenery of the Postojna Cave.

To make your trip to Slovenia truly special, consult with a local coordinator to create a unique journey just for you.

Cash, cards and currency exchange
The currency is € (Euro). You can exchange for Euros at local airports, banks, and hotels, but considering the rates, it's recommended to bring some from Japan.
Credit cards can be used without issues in major urban areas. JCB may not be accepted, so caution is advised. Also, you might be asked for your card's PIN, so it's recommended to know it.
When visiting rural towns or markets, it's advisable to have some cash on hand.
Tips
In restaurants, unless there is no service charge, just rounding up the bill is sufficient. In hotels, it's recommended to leave about 1 Euro for room service or porters. Tipping in taxis is generally not necessary, but rounding up the fare is acceptable.
Public Safety
The security situation in Slovenia is generally good, but theft incidents involving tourists increase during the summer tourist season, so caution is necessary. Be especially careful when taking photos, as you may be targeted.
Clothing
Since the climate varies by region, it's recommended to check the weather forecast and prepare accordingly before going out.
In spring and autumn, it can often get chilly, so bring sweaters or warm clothing. In summer, temperatures can exceed 30 degrees, but in inland areas, it can get cold at night, so having a light jacket is reassuring. In winter, make sure to take proper cold weather precautions.
Things you should bring with you
Multi-plug, regular medication, mobile battery, travel insurance, warm clothing
Visa availability and arrangements
There is a visa waiver agreement between Japan and Slovenia, so visas are not required for stays of up to 90 days for tourism or visiting acquaintances.
Slovenia is a member of the Schengen Agreement. From 2025, the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) will be introduced. From 2025, Japanese travelers to ETIAS countries will need to have an approved ETIAS upon arrival. For short stays not requiring a visa within the Schengen area, it is stipulated that they are only allowed for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period. This means that the maximum visa-free stay in the Schengen area, including Slovenia, is 90 days, and all days spent in the Schengen area within the past 180 days are counted as part of the short stay period.
Additionally, those eligible for the short-stay visa waiver must have a passport with a validity period of more than three months beyond the planned departure date from a Schengen Agreement member country.
Required vaccinations
There are no mandatory requirements for travel.
